ABOUT
Hi! My name is Juliana Silva, and I am a recent graduate from Goldsmiths, University of London, having earned my Master’s in Virtual and Augmented Realities. Essentially, I studied the science of storytelling, the art of world-building, and the practice of creating immersive experiences.
I had my first brush with virtual reality as an undergraduate student at Cornell, where I earned my Bachelors in Science in Communication with a focus on Technology, then in the Virtual Embodiment Laboratory (VEL) as a research assistant. These encounters propelled my interest in understanding how people communicate with one another through different technologies, especially in virtual worlds. My deep appreciation for traveling, learning, and connecting with people sparked my fascination with the role of communication through the lens of language, culture, geography, and identity. Once I started experimenting with storytelling and world-building in VR, I knew I had discovered a lifelong passion.
Virtual reality is a rapidly evolving field, with the potential to radically transform the way we experience and interact with stories. One of the areas I am most excited to explore is the realm of language and culture. As an avid traveler (50+ countries/territories) and a lover of languages - I am also fluent in Spanish and have studied French, Danish, and Mandarin - I recognize the importance of immersion and I have been enthusiastic about exploring the concept in the realm of Virtual Reality.
Whether I am crafting interactive stories, designing games, or conducting research in the field, I strive to create experiences that are immersive, engaging, and thought-provoking. Through virtual reality, users can be transported into and interact with new worlds–or even just the world around us.
