TRIP PLANNAR

Brief of Concept

Trip PlannAR brings AR flair to planning trips through plane tracking. The idea is to give the user a feel for the location as they are planning their journey by allowing them to access a 3D map of the area at their fingertips. This is so users can get acquainted with their potential destination in an interactive way. Possible travel activities and locations are separated into categories such as culture, food and beverage, and scenery. 3D graphics of the destination’s highlights will pop up along with fun facts about the selected. Users have the option of looking over each place and adding their preferred spots to their trip’s itinerary.

Project Role: UX/UI Designer

For this project, I had the pleasure of collaborating with my very talented co-UI/UX designer, Jeongmin. Together, we utilized a combination of Canva and Adobe Illustrator to bring our vision of Trip PlannAR alive.

Responsibilities include:

Launch screen mock up using Canva

Button icons using Canva

Categories menu screen mock up

2D mock up of the app including selected route

UI elements with color coded categories and information regarding each destination.

AR instructions for plane detection.

Reflections

Trip PlannAR as an augmented reality forward travel planning application has the capacity to expand beyond what we have accomplished during this project. The initial goal of our project was too big in scope so we decided to focus on the planning portion of a trip, before a traveler arrives at their destination. There is an entire realm of possibilities to be explored as to how the app can be utilized once the traveler is on the trip. I believe the work we have put into Trip PlannAR is just scratching the surface. Some challenges we faced with this project included realizing halfway through that the mapping program we were using did not have the capabilities we needed and having to pivot to a different one entirely. There were also technical issues with the integration of unity and the map. Much more research and resources are needed before the idea of Trip PlannAR can become a full fledged app.
